THANK YOU
Sunday May 29,2011 we received an urgent phone call from the
Chief of Police in Cahokia Illinois about a dog that was found in
horrible condition. The story we got was that the owner knew
there was something wrong but could not afford the vet bill so she
simply put him in his dog pen outdoors and hung tarps all around it
so no one could see him and waited for him to either get better or
die. Of course the owner did not go looking for help either, no,
someone else told the police what was going on and when they
went to look into the pen they found him. The first picture is when
they lifted up the tarp to look inside. He doesn’t look real in that
picture, he looks like a statue of a dog, not moving, just staring into
nothing. What this poor dog has is mange, untreated mange that
he has most likely been sick with for several months. He has no hair,
the skin is falling off his body, and the sores are cracking and
bleeding. His eyes are filled with green goop and he has a hard time
keeping them both open.
He was rushed to Hope Rescues and given immediate care. Nothing
special mind you, the same things the owner COULD and SHOULD
have done for him, like give him a bath, flea treat him since most flea
treatment kills mange, and some fresh food and water, along with a
soft place to lay his head.
By Monday morning he was feeling much better, ate all his food,
walked around in the yard wagging his tail. Though he has a very
long road to recovery he is in good spirits.
We named him after Aaron Grider a wonderful man who was killed in
Afghanistan serving our country. On this Memorial day weekend we
felt this trooper should be given a name worthy of honor and
bravery.
Aaron will be going to the Vet on Tuesday and we will find out there
the extent of his illness.
Thank you
