This sweetheart was rescued from an animal control facility on what would have been her last day of life. She is such a loving and gentle soul. She never gave up Hope looking for her "Forever Home"... And now she has a warm and loving family to call her own. We will never forget you Blu...

Dear Kim and Jackie, It's Blu. It has been a month or so since I moved in with these crazy ladies.
I hope I have done everything I can to be a keeper, but sometime I'm a little stupid you know I'll
chase the cats through the house. Mom (Judith) says it is the number 1 NO NO to chase and
catch the cats, I only chase them but every once in a while I get really close to catching them and
boy does she get mad. Then I have to do TIME OUT I must sit and not run and jump around like
crazy. Tell the vet who calculated my age as 2 or 3 needs to go back to aging classes if I'm a
year old I'm lucky I have so many young puppy mannerisms I couldn't possibly be over 1 maybe l
1/2 on the outside. I'm still chewing like crazy. If I make any spelling errors it is because my
paws are too big for this laptop. I live in a big house with a blind dog who I love, it is hard to get
her to play with me but I still love her. I really do like the cats but they are so much fun to chase!
But mom and Aunt Helen are afraid I will hurt them because one of their dogs killed some of their
cats and they don't want that to happen again. Did you ever find out anything about my
background? I sure wish I had some idea of where I came from maybe then mom and aunt Helen
would rest easier when I chase the cats. Oh, have to go aunt Helen wants to say a few words.
BLU
Jackie and Kim - Blu is a keeper, typical Dobe, sits on your feet, leans on you to show she loves
you, has tried to crawl in bed with me but can't because I still have an open wound and I don't
need it disturbed. Hope you get more animals adopted and continue the fight for getting
them spayed. Will keep in touch. Let us know how Hope is doing.
Helen and Judith and Blu says don't forget me.

Kim and Jackie:
Hello from Blu’s home, and I do mean BLU’s HOME. It has just been 3 month we have had her
but I swear to God it seems like 3 years. She remains a “puppy”. Runs through the house like her
ass is on fire, it would be if we could catch her but needless to say, she runs like a gazelle and
two over the hill (on the downward side) old girls can’t run as fast. She has gained almost 25
pounds; Judith is going to have to get another job just to feed her. Takes after us I guess. The
vet says she is part “bully breed” and can you tell it when she sets her mind to it. She is not an
outside dog, (not even 5 minutes) she does her business and wants back in the house and she
will show you she means business by barking and chasing anything that moves, i.e., birds,
squirrels, leaves and a group of ants changing holes. She has her own bed under my desk,
but you wouldn’t know it, she has managed to look at me with those sad eyes and I let her come
up in my hospital bed. Now she lays there beside me or should I say on me, some part of her
has to be in my lap, foot, head, butt or her whole body she doesn’t care but something must touch
me at all times.
Blu will play ball for hours, of course we lose a lot of balls as her jaws are equal to a shark. We
give her the leg bones of cattle to munch on; I would really hate to be any cow she catches. Her
tail has beaten me until I look like I am a zebra. Any suggestions will be accepted, short of cutting
her tail off. She also is very hard headed. We call her and she normally comes but there are
times she pretends she doesn’t hear us but you know she does.
We have had to set up a “time out” period for her because she is like a little kid with ADD or is
just plain hyper. Once you put the leash on her and she figures she can’t run from one end of the
house to the other (bowling alley hall – 66 feet she can get some real speed going) she drops like
a rock and falls immediately asleep.
Blu has really fallen in love with Petunia, our blind dog, she watches her outside and shows her
where the steps are so Petunia won’t go over the side of the steps. The cats are her play toys,
she chases them up and down the hall and stairs trying to clean them, but I think they are really
afraid she will eat them because her mouth is big enough to swallow them whole.
All in all, Blu is a keeper and we lover her dearly. We have told some of our friends about the
shelter and your organization, hope they have helped by adopting something.
I am not sure how I post anything to Blu’s web page. If you can give me some hints I would
appreciate it. Thanks for everything including Blu.

Jackie and Kim, it has now been 5 going on 6 months since we brought Blu home, can you
imagine she is now waiting for us to change the title on the house since she really believes this is
her house not ours. She keeps dropping the title at our feet and runs for the front door to tell us to
take it to city hall and change the name on it. I keep trying to explain to her she can't own property
because she is a dog. I have put it in plain words "dogs can't own property especially since you
won't go out and get a job to pay the bills for your dog food; dog biscuits; ice cream, or pay the
gas and electric bills for the 36" TV you have claimed and heat/air conditioning so you can set in
the overstuffed chair in comfort.". Her self-confidence is driving us crazy, (or keeping us on our
feet) as she can think of things faster than we can therefore she is always one step ahead of us.
This past month, my sister wasn't able to keep one of her dogs, apparently one of her neighbors
didn't like him (Happy) being outside and wanted to hurt him (actually pulled a gun on him). So the
humane worker in the both of us came out and we took him. Blu now believes with all her heart we
brought Happy home for her own personal play toy. I have to admit it is much easier in the
evening; she is pretty worn out from running the legs off of Happy. He is part Border collie and we
think Afghan, so he is much smaller and leaner than Blu. Blu has 35 or 40 pounds on him, and she
is really not too rough but I could enter both Happy and Blu in a Greyhound races as they are so
fast (our yard is 25 feet by 143 feet). Although Happy brought a bad habit with him, he digs small
little holes, Blu was never a digger, now she has picked up the habit. However, Blu only digs after
Happy has stared the holes, Blu will not get her toenails dirty in the mud, she waits for the dry dirt.
Then she makes the holes large enough the for the house to slide into a sink hole.
Remember when I told you Blu was part "bully breed", well, we figured out which one, a "Pit". She
has Pit characteristics, she is stubborn like when she plays tug of war, she will not let go of the
rope for anything so you wind up with your arm stretching in the next county. Another Pit trait is the
'stare down', just try to stare her down; it is really big challenge trying to out stare her. But, we are
not willing to allow her to win this contest.
Since Happy has arrived, Blu has muscled up but I don't think she has lost any of the 25 pounds
she gained since she has been here. Judith is still trying to find the extra job just to feed our
thundering herd. Neither Blu nor Happy (or the cats for that matter) understand the concept of you
must work to buy food, it doesn't just fall off of trees or the 'fairies' bring it for free.
This crazy recall thing is driving us crazy trying to make sure we don't feed them something wrong.
How are you guys doing on it? Does the food companies at least help out the shelters?
Blu still plays ball for hours, her new game is to keep away from Happy. I told you she believes
Happy is her own personal play toy. We have to be careful when we are giving out leg bones, Blu
does get really protective of them, hers, Happy's and Petunia's, she doesn't care, they all are hers.
So we are not passing out many bones these days.
She is still ignoring us when we call, but working on this she does come but when she wants to not
when we want her to come to us. It is just being Blu trying to show us she is the boss and not us.
All said and done, we wouldn't change her for the world and I really believe it would take a ton of
C3 explosives to get her to move out.
Reading your newsletter we figure the shelter is doing fine, and your turnover rate is excellent.
Judith and I wish you nothing but success with your undertaking.
