Huckleberry Finn was this little 8 week old puppy all alone in a
great big kennel at Animal Control.  The director asked us to take
him before he either got sick or ran out of time.  He was so little
but when he walked over to see another dog.. he began barking
at us loudly to come back and get him... He now has a wonderful
and loving family who drove over 10 hours to come and take him
home.

Dear Kim and Jackie,
Petey, aka Huck, is doing great! He has been named after a book called, “The Puppy
who wanted a Boy for Christmas,” this was one of Emma’s favorite stories when she was
younger. Petey is sleeping through the night, 5:30 am! And, he has not had a single
accident in three days or nights! He is very good about taking his pills too and is no
longer coughing. He is also great about being crated and it is his time out place where
he can rest.

He and Frannie (the Lab) have been introduced, though they only spend very short and
well monitored amounts of time together. Frannie is a bit of a curmudgeon and even
though she likes Petey we are taking it slow. Petey is of course in love with her and Fran
is discovering that he comes with perk. He is a good source for treats and she gets extra
treats because he is here. Petey is easily distracted and leaves his toys about so she
steals them. Kiki (the cat) and Petey have also been introduced, Petey is a perfect
gentleman, even though Kiki has had nothing nice to say. Kiki is very curious and sits on
top of his crate and comes very close when Petey is sleeping.

The neighborhood kids have all fallen in love with him and are learning how to be around
a puppy. Petey has lots of toys and chews! The kids are learning to redirect his playful
energy and give him a chew toy when he starts to nip. One of the neighbors has enjoyed
watching their children with Petey so much that they are now actively looking for their own
pound pup.

Petey has won everyone’s heart, so much so, that my nine year old even cleans-up his
poop! Emma has cleaned up her room (!) and put things out of reach so that it is a safe
puppy space. She also gets up early to play with him before she goes to camp and then
of course he is with all the kids in the afternoons. They are currently working on a movie
script and Petey is going to be the hero! This promises to be a major motion picture
production with costumes and makeup for all the supporting actors and actresses. Of
course the star will not be embellished and will perform in his natural state.

He is a great dog! And we love him dearly. Tom, told me when he went to pick him up
from you that he and Petey bonded instantly! I’ve been very surprised at how devoted
Tom is to the pup. Petey is going to meet our vet next week and if she gives the thumbs
up we will begin to take him to the dog park and find out about socialization/obedience
classes in the area.

Thank you so much! He is a great puppy!
