"Sugar Ray's Fight for Life"
People do the worst of things sometimes, case in point, our Sugar Ray.  He is possibly the most emaciated dog we have
ever seen that was still alive.  His skin literally hangs on his bones.  Yet, he finds the energy to bark, give lots of air kisses
and wag his tail.  It is unbelievable that he has that much will to survive.

On the evening of 11/1/2007 we received a call from The Animal Emergency Hospital in Collinsville Illinois stating that a
dog had been left in a vacant house for at least a month and a half with no food or water.  The dog was barely able to
stand and was only a couple of days from starving to death. Sugar Ray should weigh 60 lbs but he only weighed 30 lbs.

These pictures do not do him justice, we can hardly look at him without crying.

He is still in huge danger for feeding him after being without food for so long could still kill him.

How could anyone look into these loving eyes and just turn and walk away?

His medical needs will be great and we are asking for donations to help with his care.

If you would like to help with his recovery please click on the donation button below.
Thank You,

Hope Rescues

There is no excuse for this kind of neglect.  We as a society have turned a blind eye too many times.
Individuals who have animals MUST take responsibility for the basic care of their animals - adequate food,
    water, shelter and medical needs.

Sugar Ray faces many challenges but none as dangerous as the reintroduction of food to his system.  Over the
next five to seven days he will be on a regiment of one eighth of a cup of food every three hours.
That comes out to be about three tablespoons a meal.
He cries when you take the bowl away which is very hard for us to take.  But we know that in order for him to
maintain liver and kidney function it must be done this way.
Sugar ray will not be allowed to eat normally until he has gained at least 7 lbs, which at this rate could take a
month or more.
Our dog Lacey Jane sleeps by the
left side of his kennel as if  to look
after him.
Buster lays on the right side of his
kennel in case Lacey needs help.
This is Sugar in his new coat.  With the weather so cold and him so skinny we felt he needed something to help
keep him warm when he goes outside.
Here is Sugar in his kennel.
He loves his new coat and refuses
to take it off.

Sugar Ray and his friend Kirby sittin'
on the couch together.
Another picture of Sugar lounging on the
couch again.
He lounges a lot.
Sugar Ray is doing very well, he has become more active, and has gained 3 oz.  He nows believes that
anyone at our front door must be here to see him, and so far he has been right.
He truly loves people and it shows in his actions towards them.  He really loves his friend Kirby as you can
see by the way he looks up to him.
Sugar Ray has had no trouble so far and we hope that he comes through this without any further suffering.
BREAKING UPDATE: 11/07/2007
Tonight we were visited by someone very special.  We have baby pictures of Sugar,  and pictures of him at his
normal weight.
We also have a name, a face, and vet records to prove who did this to him.  Sugar has a message too:
Hey bad guy, we are coming to get you....
As a baby he was so cute
Here he is when he was healthy.
Sugar's birthday is October 31st, 2005.  We cannot reveal his "other"
name just yet, but we will soon enough.
He was adopted in St. Louis Missouri from a private person.
Update 11/11/2007
As of today Sugar has gained a total of 1lb and six ounces which is great news.  The doctor has increased the
amount of food that he can have to a half cup at a time.  He has more energy, is starting to show a desire to
play, and is being spoiled rotten by his growing fan club.  He has a lot of people who love him and are wishing
him the best and we think he knows that and doesn't want to let any of them down.  So he is doing better
everyday, and soon we hope to take a picture of him without the ribs showing.
Update 11/13/2007
Today is the day we go to the prosecutor with our evidence.  It is our hope that by the end of the week the person
responsible for this crime is charged and justice can be served.
Sugar has gained 3 lbs !!!!

This is wonderful news and thanks to ALL OF YOU we are starting to believe in miracles!!
UPDATE 11/18/2007
Sugar has gained nearly 6 lbs to date. He is doing wonderful, and has a bit of an ego.  On 11/17/2207 we had
our 2nd anniversary party, although if you ask Sugar Ray, he will tell you the party was all for him.
He had lots of well wishers, and strutted himself around for all to see.
We snapped some pictures of him in his "Clean" coat.  Yes we had to wash it, and he pouted the entire time it
was going through the cycles.
He begged for cake, and got a piece or two, He begged for hotdogs, and got a bite or two, he also begged for
popcorn, but we had to say "No" to that.

UPDATE 12/4/2007
Sugar Ray went to meet Santa Saturday the 1st of
December. He was taken by his big sister Angela, and
he looks to have had fun!
He has gained a total of 9 pounds now and will most
likely be able to go home for Christmas.
He told us that Santa's beard was fake and that he tried
to remove it to prove to everyone that it wasn't real, but
it must have been glued on, because it wouldn't budge.
He had a hard time concentrating because there was
another very cute boxer girl there and he couldn't take
his eyes off her.

WOW, even we didn't realize how much better he looks today, until we
compared these pictures.

To everyone who has helped this man along the way, prayed for him, raised money for him,
sent gifts for him...
Look at what we all did!!!
He is gorgeous, healthy, and going to have a great Christmas this year at his new home!
Just a few more pictures of Sugar
and his buddy Forrest right before
they got into trouble for tearing up
the couch!
That Boxer smile is the best
smile of all !

Way to go Sugar Ray !!!!
2/06/2008 Update
Sugar Ray has entered the Canine witness protection program.
He is safe, and sound, and most of all happy and healthy.
There will be no further updates posted.
WE hope that he may now ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after.

No one will be prosecuted, thank your local politicians for that.
